Black Shuck

Norfolk  England can not claim the sole right to this tale of   Mystery or Dark Secret which has haunted the East side of England for hundreds of years.  It stretches from Kent up to Yorkshire and beyond, but the stories are all most the same, the only thing is the name the locals call the beast. There are many different sizes, shapes and colours but mostly Big Black and Powerful, we will call it "Black Shuck" which I think has been handed down in the Norfolk area.

The year was 1856 near a small village in West Norfolk, a farm labour and his wife were walking

home from a friends house when it happened. It was a nice summers night about 10pm and just getting dark, the moon was coming up but it was still light enough to see the country side around them. They walked arm in arm talking as they went when they both heard the sound of a large dog running up behind them, they stopped turned around but could not see anything, the sounds had stopped so they carried on walking.

As they got closer to the front gate of their small farm cottage once again they could hear the dog but this time it was running very fast and getting so close they could hear it heavy breathing. They now began to feel very frightened and started to run for the gate but the dog felt as if it was on top of them, the man opened the gate first and let his wife in then slammed it shut.     He turned and looked up the lane but there was nothing there and the sounds had stopped once again, he was then going to speak to his wife when a deafening howl pierced the summer night. His wife screamed and pointed to the gate, the man swung around and there it was, the biggest looking black dog ? he had ever seen, its eyes seemed to be shinning bright green. It then slowly turned and disappeared into the night, it could not be seen but it could be heard padding away into the distance.

There has been no reports of any sighting on in or around the Isle of Mon`key, to this present day.
